Hello! Today's DIY project (which I seem to be doing a lot of lately!) is so easy that I wondered why I hadn't tackled it before!

It was obvious I needed one of these:

And then, one afternoon everything fell into place when:

a) I was hit with the "create something NOW" bug- those of you who know what I'm talking about know that it is impossible to shake it off!

And...

b) I was getting tired of leaving our water bill on the counter so I can remember to mail it off (I absolutely dislike ANY clutter, random item, or papers on my kitchen counter! Just ask my hubby who has gotten the "You're going to put that away and not leave it there, right?" look many a times.

So what does a girl do in such a crisis? Dramatic, I know.

Well, this girl gets to thinking and digging through her craft stash.

And lo and behold here are the items I found that would create my super easy, small and convenient letter holder:

A piece of styrofoam, scraps of burlap & fabric, twine, and my glue gun along with some glue sticks.

Perfect. I didn't even have to run to the store for anything.

Which also means this letter holder was....FREE!

Making my letter holder was so easy. I believe it took me no more than 10 minutes.

Here's how I got er' done:

I cut a strip of burlap and wrapped it around the top section of my styrofoam and hot glued the crap out of it.

FYI: I also hot glued the crap out of my fingers! Ouch!

Next, I hot glued a seam on my fabric and then wrapped it around the middle portion of the styrofoam, slightly overlapping the burlap.

And finally, I hot glued a seam on another piece of burlap and wrapped it around the bottom portion, slightly overlapping my fabric.

To add a pretty touch and an extra slot for letters I wrapped some twine in an X motion around the middle section of my letter holder.

And this was my final product!!

I think it's so cute!

It has a total of 3 slots (including the twine) which is perfect for us since the only thing we mail out is our water bill and maybe a random letter here and there....all thanks to online billing!

I also glued a strip of twine to the back so I could hang it on a command hook on the side of one of my kitchen cabinets.

Now I have a place to put anything that needs attention and things won't get lost somewhere in a drawer or mess with my over compulsiveness of having to have clear counters!

What's your solution to organizing mail or things that need attention?
